During our lead up to the wedding, the owners of Shiedhill Castle told us how they had planned to convert their house (by the stables) into a restaurant and for them to move out.
Having looked through planning applications on the South Lanarkshire Council website, there was no sign of such application. The most recent had been the conversion of the stables to rooms back in 2006. The one detail I did get out of the planning applications was that George Simpson Architect had worked on the stables as well as previous projects around the castle.
So I emailed George Simpson Architect regarding the closure of Shieldhill Castle in hope that he would know something. George kindly responded with the following to say;
Hello Adair
The Shieldhill Castle Hotel is indeed closed. I don’t know any details but there was an article in the local newspaper, the Lanark Gazette late last year I have been involved with Mr. and Mrs. Lamb on various projects over the last 10 years, the latest being the stable conversions two or three years ago. The conversion of the house was to be a future phase.
I’m sorry I can’t throw much light on the situation. I haven’t been over there since the completion of the stable conversion.
Regards
George Simpson
That’s enough confirmation for me to say that it is well and truly closed. I really do hope that someone will buy it in the near future and keep it going. Thank you to George Simpson Architect for your response.
Here’s a picture from our wedding day showing just what a beautiful castle it is.
